MODESTO, CA. - A pair of home runs and great pitching gave the Modesto Nuts a 6-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.
Keegan McGovern started the bottom of the first with a towering home run off Rawhide (48-26; 4-4) starter Jeff Bain (L, 4-5). After Anfernee Greir tied the game with a solo home run in the third, the Nuts (33-45; 3-5) took the lead for good in the fifth.
Connor Kopach doubled and moved to third on a sac bunt. Johnny Adams then reached on an error to put runners at the corners. Kopach and Adams executed a double steal to take the lead. Cal Raleigh added to the advantage in the sixth when he connected on his team-best 13th home run of the year.
Ian McKinney (W, 5-4) worked a season-high 6.1 innings while striking out eight and allowing one run. He left the game in the seventh with one out and the bases loaded. Collin Kober entered and struck out the only two batters he faced to end the threat. Ray Kerr (S, 2/2) heaved two perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts to secure the win.
Bain worked seven innings and struck out ten while allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits.
Joe Rizzo extended his hitting streak to nine games with two hits and a RBI. Jack Larsen went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
