Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The first Lake Elsinore Storm road trip of the second half began with a 7-1 win against Inland Empire on Thursday night as the Padres' affiliate won their third straight and a league-best six of eight games since the All-Star break.
Early offense and strong pitching keyed the victory for RHP starter Reiss Knehr (2-1), who pitched five innings of three-hit, one-run ball while striking out five in winning his second consecutive outing. Three Storm relievers, RHP Franklin Van Gurp, LHP Fred Schlichtholz and LHP Will Headean, combined on four innings of two-hit shutout work to preserve the win as Storm pitchers have collectively allowed only one run over the past 28 innings.
Lake Elsinore DH Gabriel Arias, second on the team with 33 runs batted in, got the scoring started with a two-out, RBI single that plated SS Eguy Rosario in the top of the first inning only to see the 66ers tie things up with a run in the home half of the first. With one out in the second, LF Jack Suwinski singled up the middle and later scored on a Olivier Basabe RBI double down the third base line, which turned out to be the game winning hit. After a walk to 2B Esteury Ruiz, 3B Allen Cordoba drilled a two-RBI triple to left field and then scored on a ground out to give the Storm a 5-1 lead.
Arias paced the 11-hit attack with three singles, while CF Jeisson Rosario (2-5) and Eguy Rosario (2-5) continued their hot start to the second half of the season.
The Storm are in sole possession of first place in the South Division and improved to a season-best six games above .500 overall with a 41-35 record.
