Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
BATTLE CREEK, MI - The Battle Creek Bombers were not able to muster a hit after the first inning, Derek Fisher hit his second homer in as many games, and the Madison Mallards defeated Battle Creek 4-2 at C.O. Brown Stadium on Saturday night.
All three hits and both runs for the Bombers came in the first, as they jumped out to an early lead. Conor Costello drove in both runs with a two-run double.
Fisher's home run broke a 2-2 tie, as he launched a 2-0 fastball from Kenton San Miguel over the right field wall to lead off the seventh inning.
Dan Tyson was effective on the hill for Battle Creek. The lefty gave up just one run and struck out five in his five innings of work.
After Sam Forkert went the first five frames for the Mallards, Danny Sullivan came in and was extremely impressive in earning the win. The big right-hander struck out the first eight men he faced, and nine out of ten overall in his three shutout innings. John Hamilton struck out two in a perfect ninth to record the save.
The Bombers will try and salvage the series finale on Sunday night at C.O. Brown Stadium. It is an early 5:05 E.T. start. Casey Mulholland will start on the hill for Battle Creek.
