(Rochester, MN)-Rochester Honkers slugger Trevor Podratz (Hawaii) will be competing in the 2012 Northwoods League Home Run Derby presented by the Dane County Regional Airport on Tuesday, July 24th in Madison, WI.

The Temecula, CA native leads the Honkers in home runs with nine on the season. That total is also good for third among all Northwoods League hitters. Podratz also leads the Honkers offense with 35 RBIs.

His competitors from the North Division are Mankato's John Michael Twichell (Texas), Waterloo's Kevin Kaczmarski (Evansville), and Willmar's Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast). Representing the South Division in the derby are Madison's very own Tyler Marincov (North Florida), Wisconsin Rapid's Alex Bacon (North Florida), Eau Claire's Casey Gillaspie (Wichita State), and La Crosse's Richard Prigatano (Long Beach State).

The eight total contestants will compete in three rounds. In the first round, each hitter will get eight outs to blast as many long balls as they can. The top four totals will advance to the second round where each contestant will get another eight outs. The players with the most combined home runs from the first two rounds will then advance to the finals. In the final round, the winner will be the hitter who tallies the most home runs in that last round.

Last season, Mankato's Shaun Cooper won the NWL Home Run Derby after hitting 33 total home runs over the three rounds.

The derby will begin at 6:00 PM. The 2012 Northwoods League All Star Game, presented by Zimbrick Honda, will take place after at 7:35 PM. Podratz, along with Rochester centerfielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) and left-handed pitcher Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) will represent the Honkers in the All Star Game.
