Wausau Woodchucks News Release
Four errors wouldn't stop the Woodchucks on Saturday evening against the Eau Claire Express, as help from Eric Filia-Snyder, and Jackson Lowery would be enough to push the Woodchucks to the 5-3 victory.
The Express brought in the first run with an RBI sacrifice fly to right field by Nick Addison, scoring Will Fadness from third base.
In the third inning, the Woodchucks put together a comeback as Brendon Hayden took advantage, and flew out to center field deep enough to score Mike Bernal on an sacrifice fly.
Chevas Numata got in the action with a two RBI single to left field, splitting the Express defense scoring Eric Filia- Snyder, and Madison Carter as the "ËChucks jumped ahead to a 3-1 lead.
Bedlam broke out in Athletic Park however, coming in the fourth inning when a controversial call preceded to two Express ejections on a baseline contact argument. Following the ejections, the inning ended on a groundout to second base.
Defensive miscues for the Woodchucks were costly Saturday evening however, as the all runs for the Express were unearned due to errors.
In the fifth inning, Mike Bernal misplayed a routine groundball as Nick Addison came around third to close the deficit gap to one. The score would go even when a wild pitch got passed Nate Irving scoring Tim Zier.
The score would remain until the bottom of the sixth where a rocket shot to center field by Brooks Braga brought around Joe Serrano to reestablish the Woodchucks lead.
Woodchucks added an insurance run cashed in by Eric Filia- Snyder in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two out double hustling home Mike Bernal to increase the deficit to two.
Jackson Lowery came in to close the game in the top of the eighth, and worked quickly through the Express line up, striking out Josh Scheffert and getting Will Fadness to ground out to get out of the jam with a runner on third.
Jackson Lowery would come back into the game in the top of the ninth to close out the game, and help the Woodchucks pick up their 13th straight win at home. Leadoff batter Alex Real flied out to right field, first basemen Jimmy Allen lined out to third base, a single would line over Bernal's head, but Lowery would do the rest, striking out Blake Schmit to end the game as the Woodchucks improve to 14-2 in the second half of the season!
