MADISON - Tyler Marincov hit a tie-breaking three-run homer in a five-run sixth inning, as the Madison Mallards held on to defeat the Battle Creek Bombers 5-3 at Warner Park.

Jared Hook got the Bombers off to a good start with a two-run two-out single in the third. Unfortunately, Hook suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury while fielding a ball at third base in the sixth inning.

Brian Valente was outstanding on the mound for Battle Creek, pitching five shutout innings. He allowed just four hits and struck out five.

Sikes Orvis hit his first home run of the season, a mammoth solo shot in the ninth off Madison closer John Hamilton, but it was not enough.

The rubber game of the series is on Friday night in Madison. Casey Mulholland will get the ball for the Bombers. First pitch is at 8:05 ET.
