Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - A pair of Winnipeg Blue Bombers defenders have been singled out for their outstanding contributions in last week's defensive slugfest with the Edmonton Eskimos.
Defensive back William Fields was named the Rogers CFL Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 while defensive end Gavin Walls was the Lineman of the Week.
Fields made several big plays in the Bombers' 14-12 loss to the Eskimos. The first-year Bomber defender intercepted two passes, recorded three tackles and had one pass knockdown. Bomber safety Wes Lysack was first runner-up for Defensive Player of the Week honours.
Meanwhile, Walls had his best game as a Bomber against the Eskimos. The lightning-quick rookie had three quarterback sacks, two tackles and hurried Esks quarterback Ricky Ray on several other occasions.
Finally, Bombers punter Jon Ryan and linebacker Neil McKinlay were runners-up for Special Teams Player of the Week honours.
