Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA - Ottawa Renegades running back Josh Ranek, who broke personal and franchise records last Saturday in the team's second win of the season over the Calgary Stampeders, was named the Rogers-CFL offensive player of the week on Tuesday.
Ranek had 20 carries for 164 yards in the 33-18 Renegades' win, improving the club to 2-2 for the 2005 season. Among his big rushes was a 66-yard scamper - the longest in team history and of his career. The 27-year-old also eclipsed a personal and Renegades record for most rushing yards in a game and tied his own mark for most carries in a single contest. In addition to his performance on the ground, Ranek also caught five passes for 48 yards.
"I'm always proud of our men's accomplishments and this is another nice one for Josh. His play was a factor in our team's offensive production and the win," said Joe Paopao, head coach and general manager of the Renegades.
Ranek is presently the leading rusher in the CFL East division (311 yards) and tops in the East in yards from scrimmage (489). He is second overall in the league in both of the categories.
This marks the fourth Renegades player who has received a league honour this season. Ranek joins quarterback Kerry Joseph, kicker Matt Kellett and defensive lineman Anthony Collier, who have all been recipients of CFL player of the week awards in 2005.
Ottawa returns to action on home turf Thursday, July 21 for a Week 5 affair against the Edmonton Eskimos at Frank Clair Stadium. Tickets are available either at the Renegades ticket office (1015 Bank Street), on the Internet (http://www.capitaltickets.ca), by phone (613.599.3267 or 877.788.3267), any Sports Experts location in the Ottawa and Gatineau regions as well as the Corel Centre Box Office in Kanata.
