Bombers Blanked In Wheeling, 4-0, Sunday Evening

Wheeling, WV – The Dayton Bombers were blanked, 4-0, by the Wheeling Nailers in front of 2,856 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia Sunday afternoon. It was the final game of a six-game road trip for the Bombers, who have 17 games remaining in the regular season.

The Nailers scored on their first shot when Ed McGrane buried his team-leading 12th goal of the season at 1:51 of the opening period.

A shorthanded goal from Evgeny Lazarev (12:24) and a powerplay goal from James Laux (19:41) gave Wheeling a 3-0 lead after two periods of play.

The only goal in the third period was another powerplay goal from Laux, and the Nailers went on to the 4-0 win. Andy Chiodo recorded 23 saves for his first shutout of the season, while Mike Ayers stopped 26 of 30 shots in the loss for Dayton.

The Bombers return home to host the Trenton Titans Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. "The Coaches Corner Pre-Game Show" starts at 6:50 PM on 980 Homer, The Sports Animal and at daytonbombers.com.
