Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Canadian Football League released its 2009 schedule today and the Winnipeg Football Club is excited for the upcoming season.
"The announcement of the CFL schedule is very timely given the activity and interests surrounding the CFL and member clubs," said Lyle Bauer, President and CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club.
"From a Blue Bomber perspective, the schedule offers plenty of variety for our fans, and in fact for the most part represents the requests our fans have made."
The Blue Bombers open the pre-season against the Hamilton Ti-Cats on Wednesday, June 17.
The first regular season game for the Blue and Gold will be on the road, Thursday, July 2, in Edmonton against the Eskimos, in a re-match of last year's East semi-final.
Winnipeg's home-opener is Friday, July 10 when they host the defending Grey Cup Champions, the Calgary Stampeders.
The July 10 contest will be the Hall of Fame Game for Winnipeg, which will see the 2009 inductees be presented at half-time during the game.
The Blue Bombers will host three Friday night games, three Saturday games, and three Sunday afternoon contests.
Winnipeg will play four regular season games against the 2008 East division winner Montreal Alouettes, the first being Saturday, August 15 at Canad Inns Stadium.
Of course, one date to circle on the calendar is the Banjo Bowl, taking place on Sunday, Sept. 13. Always a classic, the Banjo Bowl is the second game of the home-and-home with the rival Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The regular season closes Sunday, November 8 at home when the Blue Bombers host the Hamilton Ti-Cats.
