Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - The last 4 times the ThunderBolts played on Sunday, they had been outscored by a total of 52-25. For the first time in 12 tries this weekend, the Bolts were victorious on the final day of the weekend. They downed the Kalamazoo Kings 7-4 at Homer Stryker Field.
The Bolts still have not lost in any of Rick Weber's 3 starts this season. He snaked through 5 innings Sunday and yielded 4 earned runs. The lefty departed with the lead 7-2 and runners at first and 2nd. The inherited Kings scored, but no more Kalamazoo players crossed the plate after that.
The Bolt bullpen scorched the Kings in the contest. Brandon Kellbach and Lenny Bays came together for 3 innings of middle relief and permitted just 2 Kalamazoo hits. Chris Hayes earned his 8th save of the season with a scoreless 9th. The righty out of Northwestern hasn't allowed an earned run since July 16th.
Windy City chased 4 runs across in the 4th after trailing the contest 2-1. Nick Klusaw, Nate Whitney and Scott Vetter each pitched RBI doubles into the offensive cause. Vetter's hit was his 2nd driven in of the game. He was 2-for-3 in back-to-back evenings.
Nate Whitney contributed a trio of hits and Nick Ewen added 3 hits as well. Doug Schutt cracked 2 off of Kalamazoo pitching.
The win is the first in a dozen tries on Sunday this season for Windy City. It's the 2nd win in 9 attempts vis-Ã -vis the division-leading Kings this campaign.
Monday is a league-wide off-day. The Bolts retake the field Tuesday at Hawkinson Ford Field for the first of 6 in Crestwood. The Florence Freedom comes to town from Kentucky. The T-Bolts snared 2 of 3 from Florence late last month at Champion Window Field. Sam Jansen makes his first Windy City start Tuesday evening. His first pitch comes at 7:05. You can find that and every delivery on WJOB AM 1230 along with the pregame show. Bolts baseball begins at 6:45.
