Bolts Drop Finale to Washington 5-3

WASHINGTON, PA- The Windy City ThunderBolts fell 5-3 in the final game of a three-game set against the Washington Wild Things Thursday evening at Wild Things Park.

A night after the ThunderBolts equalized their season high of 16 hits, Windy City (21-27) could not capture their fourth consecutive series victory Thursday night.

The Wild Things mustered the first run of the game on a solo home run from Wagner LaGrange, his thirteenth of the season in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 Washington (21-27) advantage.

ThunderBolts first baseman Peyton Issacson began the inning with a double down the first base line. After a groundout that elevated Issacson to third base, Windy City knotted the game at 1-1 when Paul Coumoulos singled for his 15th RBI of the season. With two outs, Daniel Robinson doubled to left-center field giving Windy City their first lead of the evening 2-1 in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second inning, Wild Things first baseman Andrew Czech doubled to left field. A sacrifice fly by Tommy Caused tied the game 2-2 through two innings.

Following the fifth inning the Wild Things yanked Dariel Fregio (0-0) after five innings of work, surrendering two earned runs over four hits while walking one and striking out four.

Justin-Goosen Brown came into relief in the top of the sixth for the Washington. Issacson and Frontier League All-Star Micah Yonamine each hit back to back singles, and with two outs catcher Jonathan Waite knocked an opposite field single for a 3-2 Bolts lead.

Washington struck in the bottom of the seventh inning. Windy City LHP and All-Star Cal Djuraskovic entered the game for Sugg in the bottom of the seventh. A lead off walk and a sacrifice bunt led to Wild Things' Abraham Sequera enduring a 15 pitch at bat leading to a walk. Washington right-fielder Anthony Brocato launched a double to deep left tying the game at 3-3.

With runners at second and third base, Wild Things second baseman Scott Dabrule laced a ball to deep center field. Both runners ended up scoring on the play, putting the Wild Things ahead 5-3.

Windy City starting pitcher Taylor Sugg (3-2) threw six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, while enduring six hits over one walk and striking out six.

Djuraskovic (1-1) took the loss, throwing .2 IP while walking two and giving up all three runs in the defeat.

Goosen-Brown (2-1) earned the win for Washington, tossing 2.2IP allowing one run over five hits walking two and striking out one. Lukas Young earned his sixth save of the season for the Wild Things.

Windy City is back in action Friday night in Evansville at Bosse Field for a 6:35 CT start against the Evansville Otters. All Star selection Garrett Christman (4-2, 1.97 ERA) vs. Evansville (TBA).
