Boise wins over Salem-Keizer

KEIZER, Ore. - Rallying from an early four-run deficit, the Boise Hawks picked up back-to-back road wins for just the second time this season. defeating the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 7-4, at Volcanoes Stadium.

Boise last won two-straight road games in June (June 21 in Eugene, June 28 in Tri-City) and clinched the season series with the Volcanoes for the first time since the 2002 season.

Run scoring doubles by Brett Krill and Ben Thomas, and an RBI single by Jesus Galindo helped S-K to a quick 4-0 lead in the second. Boise responded in the third, getting RBI singles from Oliver Zapata and Zeke DeVoss, and a two-out, two-run single from Ryan Cuneo to tie the game. The Hawks would take the lead for good in the fifth, as Rafael Lopez lined a two-out RBI single, scoring DeVoss in a close play at the plate.

Leading 7-4 heading into the late innings, the Volcanoes threatened - loading the bases in both the seventh and eighth with two outs. But Joe Zeller got Joe Panik to pop out in the seventh, and Andrew McKirahan got Kaohi Downing to ground out to end the threats. In the ninth, S-K brought the tying run to the plate, but closer Bryce Shafer struck out Krill to end the game.

Jose Rosario picked up his fourth-straight win for the Hawks - retiring 12 of the final 14 men he faced in six innings, logging his team-best fifth win, while Shafer picked up his 11th save. DeVoss and Wes Darvill each had three hit nights for the Hawks. Mike Murray went 3-for-4 in the loss for the Volcanoes.

Game 3 of the series is tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. (PT), with Austin Reed getting the start for the Hawks.
