Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (18-12, 34-34) were blanked by the Yakima Bears (15-15, 28-40) 6-0, suffering their third straight loss despite a dominant performance by Sox starter Jose Campos who struck out a season-high 12 batters, the most by any Everett pitcher this season.

Campos (5-4, 2.12 ERA) went eight innings while allowing two runs, both unearned, and four hits in his final home start of the season. At Everett Memorial this year, Campos allowed only four earned runs and three walks while striking out 52 batters in 46 innings.

The Bears got all the necessary offense in the third inning, when two costly errors by Everett infielders on routine plays extended the inning and allowed Yakima first baseman Jimmy Comerota to knock in two runs on a double to right field. After Campos left following the eighth inning, the Bears added four insurance runs to lock up their fifth straight win.

The Frogs offense could not muster up any support for Campos, with only right-fielder Mario Yepez recording multiple hits and Sox baserunners getting in scoring position only twice during the game. It was only the second time this season the Sox have been shut out, and first time since June 24.

The Sox will look to stay in the lead of the West Division, holding a one game lead over Eugene, as the two teams match up left-handers Bennett Whitmore (4-5, 5.27 ERA) and Adam Kudryk (3-4, 3.42 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
