Bobcats win OT thriller

The Bismarck Bobcats (32-13-1, 65 points) set a franchise record for wins (32) in a season in their North American Hockey League history Sunday night, defeating the Alexandria Blizzard (22-19-5, 49 points) in overtime 5-4. The Bobcats lead the Central Division by four points over the North Iowa Outlaws after the weekend games.

Bismarck was down after the first period 1-0 as Alexandria's Kyle Clement scored his first of two goals of the night to give the Blizzard the lead. It was the Bobcats first win of the season when trailing after the first period. As their record is now 1-5-0 when having to come back in the game when trailing at the end of twenty minutes.

Bobcats' Cody Keefer scored two goals in the second period to give him four goals on the weekend in Alexandria. Casey Kleisinger scored the first goal for the Bobcats and added an assist in the third period on Isaiah Bennis go-ahead-goal.

In overtime, the Bobcats' John Wickman scored the game-winning goal less than a minute into the extra period. Wickman scored on a slapshot skating into the left-circle giving him five game-winning goals out of his 15 total goals on the season.

Bismarck's franchise-high in wins is 37 set in the 2002-2003 season when they played in the America West Hockey League, which was the same year they won the league championship (Bourne Cup). The Bobcats have twelve regular season games remaining on their schedule and nine are in the V.F.W. Sports Center.
