Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH (Sunday, February 22nd, 2009) -- The Mahoning Valley Phantoms continue their busy February schedule on Tuesday morning when they host the US National Team in an intradivision NAHL hockey game.
The game, scheduled for a rare 10:00 AM start, is the crown jewel of the Phantoms' "Hockey for Health" program, an initiative that brings Phantoms players and coaches to Valley schools to teach area students about hockey and the importance of healthy living.
For Tuesday's contest, the Phantoms have invited thousands of local students and teachers to attend their morning contest against the Nationals. Throughout the game, there will be interactive contests, fun facts and giveaways that focus on Hockey for Health's main focal points including proper eating and exercise habits.
During the Phantoms' Hockey for Health presentations, students interact with players throughout the presentation as they are guided though various stretching and hockey related skills and techniques, followed by a Q & A session.
The program provides a fun-filled and unique learning environment for students as well as a vehicle to generate an interest in hockey and ice skating.
Each student participating in 'Hockey for Health' receives an activity page with nutritional tips and skating information. Students also receive a free admission coupon to an upcoming Phantoms hockey game as well as a free admission to a public skating session at the Ice Zone in Boardman.
For schools still interested in attending the Phantoms' Hockey for Health game on Tuesday, there are still great tickets still available for $5 each. Interested schools should call (330) 746-1064, ext. 171, to reserve seats for Tuesday's game.
