Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Chilliwack Bruins Hockey Club, along with the generous support of education partner Bank of Montreal are pleased to present the BMO Books With The Bruins Literacy Program. The program is entering its third year. During the 2007/08 season the BMO Books with the Bruins literacy program involved 25 local schools, over 50 classrooms and more than 1,200 students.
"BMO Bank of Montreal is proud to be the sponsor of the BMO Books with the Bruins program for another year. This program gets kids excited about learning by reading with the Bruins players. What a perfect way to mix sport and learning." says Jeremy Sibley, Branch Manager at the Sardis Bank of Montreal.
As part of the program, local students in grades 2-5 are encouraged to spend extra time reading and studying. Bruins players, who are students themselves, visit schools each week and provide Bruins ticket incentives that are put in place for avid readers. Players spend an hour reading to students and speaking about the importance of education. They also gear the kids up for a session of floor hockey, answering questions and signing autographs.
"At BMO we feel that promoting literacy within our community is an important step in making Chilliwack a better place to live. BMO Bank of Montreal has been in Chilliwack for more than 100 years and we are proud to partner with The Bruins to make the BMO Books With The Bruins program possible." adds Sibley.
As a bonus, the school community is able to purchase Bruins tickets at a discounted rate to attend a BMO Books with the Bruins night on a selected date during the hockey season. The students get in for free thanks to the generous support of BMO and are able to bring family and friends with them for a special Bruins ticket price.
The Chilliwack Bruins Hockey Club was selected the WHL's 2007/08 Scholastic Team of the Year.
