
BlueClaws Winless on Road Trip, Fall in Greensboro

Lakewood, N.J. â The Lakewood BlueClaws (3-15) opened up a four game series with the Greensboro Grasshoppers (10-7), Single-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins on Tuesday night in Greensboro, NC. The Grasshoppers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning on their way to a 9-7 win.
The Grasshoppers took an early 4-0 lead in the first off starter Kyle Kendrick (L, 0-3). With two runners on base, first baseman Juan Figueroa singled in a run from second base. Following a walk to J.T. Restko to load the bases Kevin Sewell connected for a two run double to increase the lead to 3-0. Greensboro added another run before the inning was over on Brett Carrolls ground ball out.
Lakewood cut the lead in half in the third inning making it 4-2. Josh Mader scored on Greg Golson's base hit making it 1-0. Golson advanced to second on Brad Harman's single then scored when Steve Gendron threw the ball away on Jason Jaramillo's ground ball.
Greensboro answered back in the bottom of the third inning when Jai Miller smacked a two-run homer and the Grasshoppers were up 6-2.
The BlueClaws offense continued to show fight with Sean Gamble connecting for a lead off home run in the fourth inning cutting the lead to 6-3. After Sam Orr tripled Mader drove him home on an RBI ground out and again the BlueClaws were within two runs, 6-4.
The Grasshoppers weren't finished though scoring three more times in the bottom of the fourth highlighted by a two run single off the bat of Sewell and the Grasshoppers were up 9-4. Sewell finished the night 3-for-4 with two double's, four RBI's and run scored.
Brad Harman led the offense for the BlueClaws going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI's.
Kendrick pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing eight runs on six hits while walking four and striking out four. Lakewood's bullpen kept them in the game pitching 4 1/3 innings allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven.
The BlueClaws continue their series with the Grasshoppers on Wednesday night with Maximino Delecruz (0-2, 6.00 ERA) going to the mound for Lakewood. On air time is 6:50 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on 1310 WADB AM.
This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the other great promotions this year, fireworks after every Friday night home game sponsored by Toyota World / Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.
