LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws are now just one game out of first in the South Atlantic League North after a 6-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers Saturday night.

Julio Rodriguez (2-0), making his third start as a BlueClaw, held the Hoppers (26-31) to an unearned run and three hits in six innings, striking out seven. Luke Wertz went the remaining three, allowing an unearned run and picking up his first save of the season.

Grasshoppers starter Matt Montgomery (4-6) needed just 19 pitches to make it through the first two innings, but hit a speed bump in the third. After two quick outs Alan Schoenberger singled, Jiwan James doubled, and Schoenberger scored on a wild pitch. Jonathan Villar then doubled in James to make it 2-0 BlueClaws.

Lakewood (33-24) extended the lead to three in the fourth on an RBI double by Jeremy Barnes, and broke the game open leading 3-1 in the seventh.

James singled with one out, and scored on a double by Villar to push the lead back to three. Jonathan Singleton then belted his sixth home run of the season to right to give the Claws a 6-2 edge.

Singleton went 3-for-4 on the night, doubling twice. He bumped his average to .419, with 26 RBIs in 24 games with Lakewood.

Sunday at 1:05 pm BlueClaws RHP Jonathan Pettibone (2-1, 4.69) will make his first start off the disabled list against Greensboro LHP Jose Alvarez (4-1, 3.65). Pettibone was put on the DL May 22nd with right shoulder weakness.
