BlueClaws Swept as Legends Rally for Win

Lakewood, N.J. – The Lakewood BlueClaws (3-15) could not hold a lead late as the Lexington Legends (12-6) rallied to score five runs in the sixth and win 8-5 to complete the series sweep on Monday night in Lexington, KY.

Lakewood took an early lead in the first scoring twice on just one hit. The inning began with Greg Golson reaching on an error. Josh Mader followed up with a walk and the BlueClaws had two on with no out. A throwing error by pitcher Troy Patton on Chris Klemm's grounder scored Golson and put Lakewood up 1-0. The BlueClaws made it 2-0 when Jason Jaramillo connected for an RBI single scoring Mader.

Lexington evened it up at 2-2 in the bottom half of the first inning. First-baseman Scott Robinson connected for an RBI base hit scoring Ben Zobrist from second. Left-fielder Hunter Pence scored on Scott Robinson's grounder to tie the game at 2-2.

The BlueClaws regained the lead in the second inning on an RBI double from Golson scoring Timi Moni from second and Lakewood was up 3-2. Lakewood increased the lead to 4-2 in third inning when Sean Gamble connected for a two-out RBI base hit plating Jaramillo from second. The BlueClaws made it 5-2 in the fifth when Jaramillo connected for a one out double. Ryan Frith drove in Jaramillo on a two-out RBI double.

The Legends reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning with Joe Bisenius pitching in relief for the BlueClaws. Lexington scored five runs on three hits highlighted by a grand slam from Robinson. Saul Torres also connected for a home run, a two solo shot to cap off the scoring and put the Legends up 7-5.

Bisenius (L, 0-1) pitched two innings in relief allowing six runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two. Paul Estrada (W, 1-1) pitched three innings in relief for the Legends allowing no runs on two hits while striking out one.

BlueClaws starter Derrek Griffith got the no-decision allowing two runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out three over five innings worth of work. Jaramillo finished the night 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The BlueClaws now travel to Greensboro to take on the Grasshoppers, the Single-A team of the Florida Marlins for a four game series. On air time is 6:50 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on 1310 WADB AM.

This season, the Lakewood BlueClaws are celebrating their fifth anniversary of providing great fun in the Jersey sun. Among the other great promotions this year, fireworks after every Friday night home game sponsored by Toyota World / Scion World of Lakewood. In addition, the BlueClaws will host games against affiliates of the New York Yankees and Mets.
