SAVANNAH, Ga. - Low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of Historic Grayson Stadium Saturday night needed to be careful. The Gnats and Jackets combined for ten homeruns in their split of the first doubleheader of 2005.

Savannah smacked three round trippers en route to an 8-6 victory in game one. Catcher Devin Ivany was the star for the Gnats, homering twice and plating four. First baseman Steve Mortimer chipped in with a three-run blast in the fourth.

Gnats starter Ricardo Morales struggled for the first time this season, surrendering six runs over 6.2 innings pitched. Morales allowed three Greenjacket dingers to third baseman Simon Klink, shortstop Marcus Sanders, and left fielder Jon Armitage. The southpaw nearly completed the first seven-inning affair of the evening, giving way to closer Bret Campbell with two outs in the final inning.

In the nightcap, the Gnats looked to continue their offensive output. The Savannah Nine chased four across the plate in the first inning, highlighted by the leadoff shot to left by center fielder Doug Vroman, in his first plate appearance for the Gnats. Savannah would lead 4-0 after one stanza.

Augusta ended Savannah's offensive monopoly, putting up an eight spot in the fourth. Every Greenjacket starter reached base with the exception of left fielder Jon Armitage.

Augusta tacked on two runs in the fifth when Lisandro Disla and Steve Holm smashed back-to-back homers off reliever Steven Cook. A last ditch effort by the Gnats in the bottom of the seventh fell short as they dropped the nightcap 10-5.

The Gnats and The Jackets wrap up the four-game set Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Historic Grayson Stadium. Tickets are available by callin the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
