BlueClaws Shutout Shorebirds 10-0 in Finale

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (16-23) dropped the series finale to the Lakewood BlueClaws (22-19) 10-0. It was their final game on the home stand in which they went 3-3.

Both teams went scoreless in the first, but Lakewood began their attack in a big way in the top of the second. William Carmona led off with a single and was followed by a walk by Josh Ludy and a single by Trey Ford. After a strikeout, Tim Carver, belted a grand slam over the left field fence to put Lakewood up 4-0.

The BlueClaws would extend their lead with an RBI single by Maikel Franco in the fifth to boost their lead to 5-0.

Lakewood clawed another run across the board when 'Birds reliever Bobby Wilkins dropped a toss from first baseman Connor Narron trying to cover first. Maikel Franco came into score on the error.

The Blueclaws put a few insurance runs on the board in the top half of the ninth. Brock Stassi led off with a double and later scored on a Maikel Franco single. Franco and Kelly Dugan scored on a single by Brian Pointer. Pointer scored the final run of the game on a Trey Ford single to center.

Mikey Planeta recorded two of the Shorebirds three hits. He had a single in the first and a double in the sixth, but Delmarva couldn't knock him in.

The winning pitcher for Lakewood was starter Hoby Milner (3-2) who went seven strong innings giving up just three hits and zero runs. He also recorded seven strikeouts.

Felix Santos finished the job for the BlueClaws. He pitched two innings of relief retiring all six batters in order.

The losing pitcher on the evening was Delmarva Starter Parker Bridwell (4-8), who went five innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits while walking four.

Bobby Wilkins made his Shorebirds debut pitching two innings and giving up two hits.

Also making his Delmarva debut was reliever Alex Schmarzo who pitched one inning of relief but gave up four runs on three hits. He also struck out one and walked two.

Finishing the game for the 'Birds was Gene Escat who gave up one hit and one walk in one inning of relief.

Delmarva heads to Greensboro on Friday to begin a four game road trip. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The starting pitcher for Delmarva is Matt Taylor (5-6, 4.12).
