Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws brief three-game series with Greensboro, April 5-7, served as an appetizer for baseball fans on the Jersey Shore. Wednesday, after 10 days away from home, the BlueClaws will return to FirstEnergy Park to face the Delmarva Shorebirds for the first time in 2007, in the opener of a six-game homestand.
After splitting a four-game set with the West Virginia Power (Brewers) in the beginning of the week, the BlueClaws then battled the weather and the Crawdads in Hickory. Lakewood took the opening game 9-5 on Friday night before having the remaining three games in the series postponed due to the weather. The BlueClaws, 4-4, are in fifth place in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.
The Shorebirds are the single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles and have a 3-7 record after their final two games against the Power were rained out. On Wednesday night, the first 2,000 fans of all ages will receive schedule posters courtesy of AIG. UTZ Quality Foods is sponsoring a BlueClaws batting helmet giveaway for the first 2,000 kids 17 & under on Thursday and fireworks will be set off following Friday night's game presented by Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood.
First pitch on Wednesday and Thursday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. On Friday the game will begin at 7:05 p.m.
The Hagerstown Suns (Nationals) come to town on Saturday to face the BlueClaws after three games with the Lake County Captains (Indians). The games will be at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 6:35 p.m. on Monday night.
Before Saturday's game, the BlueClaws will host a "Spring Cleaning." In conjunction with K98.5 and Mobile Attic at Hecht Trailers, new or used baseball or softball equipment will be collected outside FirstEnergy Park. A Mobile Attic will be stationed outside the ballpark, and fans can drop off their equipment, which will be donated to the Lakewood Little League.
Monday night is the first Kids Eat Free Monday of the season. Presented by Shop Rite, all kids 12 & under will receive a voucher for a hot dog, chips, and soda upon entering the stadium. There will also be a cartoon character party thanks to Perfect Party Rentals. Five very well-known cartoon characters will be making an appearance at the game.
The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance every year, adding 448,310 fans in 2006. This season, the BlueClaws will become the fastest team in South Atlantic League and New Jersey baseball history to reach the 3 million fan attendance mark.
