
GreenJackets Drop First Game of Season

Columbus, GA - The GreenJackets (12-1) suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday night dropping the first game of a four game series to the Columbus Catfish (7-6), 5-1. Dan Griffin allowed five runs on five hits to take the loss and the Catfish plated five unanswered runs after Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Augusta got on the board first when Brett Pill connected for an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning. Marcus Sanders and Tyler Graham led off the frame with back to back singles then with one out in the frame moved up a base with a double steal. Pill followed with a sac-fly to right to score the first run of the game.
Columbus answered back in the bottom half with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Cesar Suarez connected for an RBI double then Nevin Ashley followed with an RBI sac-fly to right-field to give the Catfish the lead.
Griffin (2-1) worked five plus innings, facing three batters in the sixth, but could not record an out allowing a pair of doubles, two runs and he hit a batter. Griffin walked two and struck out three in the loss.
Ben Snyder worked in relief of Griffin and allowed one hit over three innings of work. The one hit came in the sixth inning working in relief of Griffin and scored the final run credited to Griffin.
The GreenJackets and Catfish will play game two of their four game series on Wednesday night with Augusta sending right-hander Henry Sosa (1-0, 1.00) to the mound. Columbus will counter with right-hander Josh Butler (1-0, 2.70). Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
