April 19, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Jake Scheiner capped a three-run eighth inning with an RBI single and Addison Russ closed the door on Delmarva as the BlueClaws came back to earn a 4-3 win on Thursday night at Perdue Stadium.
Lakewood trailed 3-0 after one inning but got one in the sixth and three in the eighth. The BlueClaws (7-7) are now 3-1 against the Shorebirds (11-3) this year, while Delmarva is 10-0 against everyone but Lakewood.
After Travis Seabrook threw a scoreless seventh, the BlueClaws plated three in the eighth to take the lead. With two-on, Jhailyn Ortiz doubled in a run to put Lakewood on the board. Quincy Nieportetied the game with a SAC fly, setting up Jake Scheiner's go-ahead RBI double.
Jonathan Hennigan threw a perfect eighth for the BlueClaws and has retired all 16 hitters he's faced so far this year. Russ' scoreless inning gave him his second save of 2018.
Delmarva got five of their first six hitters on base against Will Stewart, plating three in the first inning. Kirvin Mosequit, who led off the game with a single, scored on a wild pitch. TJ Nichting and Trevor Craport added RBI singles in the three-run first.
Stewart, who did not allow an earned run in his first two starts, did not allow a run from there, getting through the fifth inning while keeping the score 3-0.
Luis Carrasco, who threw two scoreless innings in relief of Stewart, earned the win (1-0) while Delmarva's Travis Seabrook (0-1) took the loss.
Ortiz and Scheiner each had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws improved to 4-4 in one-run games and have played eight one-run games in their first 14 played this year.
The teams continue their four-game series on Friday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Spencer Howard (0-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Matthias Dietz (2-0).
