Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD â The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that they have acquired pitcher Cory Lidle from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for outfielder Javon Moran and pitcher Joe Wilson and a player to be named later or cash. Moran and Wilson have spent the entire 2004 season with the Lakewood BlueClaws.
Moran batted .285 with two home runs and 38 runs batted in over 101 games with the BlueClaws. The Phillies fourth round pick in 2003 ranked fourth in the South Atlantic League with 41 stolen bases, fifth with nine triples, sixth with 73 runs scored and tenth in hits with 120. Moran established a new single season franchise record on August 2 when he scored two runs to push his season total to 70 and break the previous record of 68 set by Juan Richardson in 2001. The former Auburn outfielder also established a club record with two triples in a May 8 game at Charleston (WV).
Wilson went 4-5 with a 3.03 earned run average in 19 starts with Lakewood. The left-hander was shelved twice during the season with a sore shoulder and missed three turns in the rotation. The Phillies 13th round pick in 2003 yielded just one earned run over his last 18 1/3 innings of work over his last three starts and only gave up more than two earned runs in three starts.
Lidle was 7-10 with a 5.32 earned run mark in 24 starts in his first season with Cincinnati. The veteran right-hander is currently tied for second in the National League with three complete games and has worked at least five innings in 22 of his 24 starts and has lasted at least seven innings in 10 turns. Lidle signed a one-year deal with the Reds after spending the 2003 season with the Toronto Blue Jays. Lidle has also pitched for the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Oakland Athletics during a career in which he has won 52 and lost 44.
