
Crawdads Take Three from Braves

Rome, GA- It was "Turn Back the Clock Night" but the Rome Braves couldn't turn back the Hickory Crawdads losing 7-3 at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,939.
Hickory took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Anthony Bocchino drew a walk off Rome starter Stephen Russell and scored on Justin Harris' double down the left field line.
Rome bounced back in the fourth inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Steven Doetsch singled to right center and moved to second on Carlos Guzman's base hit through the left side. Ben Thomas followed with a double to centerfield scoring Doetsch. Guzman came home on the play after Hickory left fielder Anthony Bocchino bobbled the ball. The Braves posted a single run in the fifth thanks to a Steven Doetsch single to centerfield scoring Martin Prado.
The Crawdads posted two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and a single run in the seventh. Hickory capped their scoring drive in the eighth, thanks to a solo homerun off the bat of Jon Benick.
Rome starter Stephen Russell takes the loss (5-6) while Hickory starter Wardell Starling picks up the win (8-7).
The Braves have Tuesday off before beginning an eight-game road trip. Rome travels to Lexington to take on the Legends, and then to Charleston, WV to play the Alley Cats. The Braves return to State Mutual Stadium on August 19 to face the Augusta Greenjackets for a four-game series. Tickets are available by calling the Rome Braves ticket office at (706) 378-5144.
