BlueClaws Get 1-Hit in Opener

LEXINGTON, KY-David Qualben pitched seven hitless and scoreless innings as Lexington broke a 1- 1 tie upon continuation of a suspended game and won the opener on Saturday by a 4-1 score.

Qualben (8-7), who had a 7.82 ERA in July coming into this game, walked just two batters over his seven innings of work and retired the final nine he faced. The lefty won his 2nd game since May 25th in the process.

Overall in the game, Lakewood picked up just one hit. It's the fourth time in franchise history the BlueClaws have been one-hit; the previous time was June 6, 2006, by Delmarva.

Lexington (18-18) has now taken two of the first three games from Lakewood (18-16). The BlueClaws are 1- 6 on this road trip.

David Caipen hit his 1st home run of the year in the 3rd off of Darren Byrd, who picked up the game for Lakewood in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The homer broke a 1-1 tie. Koby Clemens also drove in a run on a fielder's choice groundout in the 6th.

Byrd (5-9) gave up two runs over five but lost his 3rd straight game. Chris Rhoades allowed a run in the 8th in his BlueClaws debut.

Friday night, Jordan Parraz drove in Eric Taylor with a triple in the 1st inning off of Scott Mitchinson, and Joel Naughton scored on a Casey Hudspeth wild pitch for a 1-1 tie.

After an inning and a half, the game was suspended, and resumed tonight.

NOTE: Game two, a seven-inning game, is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:20.
