Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Aaron Knapp's RBI single in the eighth inning drove in the only run of the game as Greensboro topped the BlueClaws 1-0 on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park.
The Grasshoppers (6-4) took the first of 23 meetings with the BlueClaws (5-6) this season.
Knapp, the younger brother of Phillies catcher and 2014 BlueClaw Andrew Knapp, drove in Marcos Rivera with his base hit to right field off Luis Ramirez. The run was charged to Zach Warren (0-1), who took the loss despite striking out three in 2.1 innings of work.
Bryce Howe (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings and RJ Peace threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save.
Grasshoppers starter Edward Cabrera did not allow a hit over six scoreless innings, striking out two. Bryce Howe came in and threw two scoreless innings in relief.
The BlueClaws had just three base-runners on the night and two were thrown out stealing by catcher BJ Lopez, who got Daniel Brito in the fifth and Simon Muzziotti in the seventh. Muzziotti had the only BlueClaws hit of the night, a single to center leading off in the seventh.
Lakewood starter Connor Brogdon threw five scoreless innings but did not factor in the decision.
The BlueClaws and Grasshoppers continue their series on Tuesday night at 6:35 pm. LHP David Parkinson (1-0) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Brady Puckett (1-1).
