Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Byron Wiley singled and scored late in the game, but the Hillcats went down early and dropped their second straight to Wilmington, 8-2.
The Hillcats got on the board first in the second inning. Neftali Soto reached on an error and scored on Kyle Day's double play groundout. However starter Mark Serrano left the game after retiring the first six batters he faced, and Wilmington took advantage of Serrano's early exit.
The Blue Rocks scored four runs in the top of the third off reliever Daryl Harang. Rey Navarro led off the inning with a single and scored on Devin Mesoraco's throwing error. Patrick Norris added a three-run homer in that inning, his first of the season.
Salvador Perez homered in the next inning to add to the lead. The Blue Rocks got three more runs in the sixth inning after the first three hitters reached and eventually scored. Jamar Walton had a two-run single in the inning.
The Hillcats scored once in the eighth. Byron Wiley singled to lead off the inning and later scored on Cody Puckett's fielder's choice groundout.
Harang gets credit for the loss. He threw three and one-third innings and gave up eight runs, all earned. Alex Caldera gets the win for Wilmington.
Josh Fellhauer also left the game after the sixth inning. He hit the wall hard after a Jamie Romak double in the top of the sixth, then batted in the bottom of the inning before leaving the game.
Lynchburg and Wilmington conclude their four game series tomorrow night at City Stadium with a 6:05 first pitch. The Hillcats send out lefty Matt Fairel (3-1, 3.61) opposite righty Manauris Baez (1-2, 5.22). The ballpark features "Thursday Cheers" drink specials throughout the night.
