Potomac Nationals News Release

WILMINGTON, Del..- A day after blowing out the Potomac Nationals 14-1, the Wilmington Blue Rocks snuck past the P-Nats 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

In a game where both teams combined for just seven hits, the Blue Rocks were opportunistic early and held on late.

Wilmington got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Kurt Mertins drew a one-out walk off of Potomac starter Jeff Mandel (6-6). After a steal of second, Mertins took third as Anthony Seratelli reached base on an infield single. Matt Morizio then grounded to short and Dan Lyons gunned down Mertins at the plate for the second out of the inning. Mandel couldn't completely dodge the bullet as Adrian Ortiz drove in the game's first run with a two-out RBI single to left putting the Rocks up 1-0.

The Blue Rocks took advantage of a leadoff walk to Chris McConnell in the bottom of the third inning as Cody Strait hit a double just inside the third base line driving in McConnell and increasing the lead to 2-0.

Wilmington starter Everett Teaford got the nod on only three-days rest and was limited to just two innings. The left-hander combined with three relievers to limit Potomac to just three hits. The "Blue Crew" struck out 10 batters and walked four.

The only real threat for the P-Nats came in the top of the eighth inning. Michael Martinez ripped a triple into the right-center field gap with one out in the frame off of Henry Barrera. The right-hander then struck out Lyons for the second out of the inning. Wilmington then went to its bullpen and brought in Carolina League saves leader Tyler Chambliss who walked Andrew Lefave, the first batter he faced. A wild pitch moved Lefave to second base with the tying run. Chambliss ended up getting out of the jam by striking out Dee Brown to end the frame.

For the fifth straight outing, Mandel managed to work a quality start going six innings while allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Aaron Hartsock (12-5) earned the win in relief by tossing three scoreless innings. Chambliss picked up his 24th save in the process.

The P-Nats will play the final game of the regular season on Monday as leftt-hander Jack Spradlin (5-1, 3.31) gets the spot start against left-hander Ray Liotta (1-1, 1.93). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
