DUNEDIN, FL - The Florida State League has named Blue Jays 1B K.C. Hobson Player of the Week for the period of June 2-June 8. In seven games this past week, he went 11-for-26 (.423) with two homers, three doubles, four runs and nine RBIs. He reached base in half of his plate appearances (.500 OBP) and slugged .769.

A 2014 Florida State League All-Star and Home Run Derby selection, Hobson leads the league with 51 RBIs through his first 57 games of the season. He also ranks third in the league with a 9.46 plate appearances-per-strikeout ratio, drawing 26 walks against just 26 Ks. Hobson is batting .308 with runners in scoring position, and has belted four home runs in 2014.

This current tear is nearly as impressive as Hobson's efforts during a particularly hot stretch last summer, when he hit three homers and knocked in 14 runs over four games from July 22-July 25, 2013. Hobson was edged out by Byron Buxton, the top prospect in baseball, for Player of the Week honors.

In Dunedin's first 12 games of 2014, Hobson led the league with 17 RBIs and powered the D-Jays to a 10-2 record out of the gate. Last season with the Blue Jays, Hobson hit a team-high 19 home runs and also led the ball club with 72 RBIs.

The 23-year-old from Bakersfield California was selected in the sixth round of the 2009 draft out of Stockdale High School in Bakersfield California. His father Butch Hobson is a former major leaguer who managed the Red Sox from 1992-1994.

Hobson joins teammates LHP Matt Boyd (April 3-14 and April 21-28), CF Dalton Pompey (April 21-28) and RF Marcus Knecht (May 26-June 2) as recipients of the FSL Player/Pitcher of the Week Award in 2014.
