Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - When the Hammerheads stormed back to score seven runs in the eighth inning on Monday, it looked like it would be a big enough cushion for an easy win. It turns out Jupiter would need each and every one of those runs as the Sharks held on for a 8-7 to earn a sweep of the two-game series against Fort Myers.
After RBI doubles Aderling Mejia and Stephen Wickens put the Miracle ahead in the top half of the eighth, the Hammerheads came out swinging against Brian Gilbert in the bottom half of the frame.
Blake Barber and Colin Moran started the rally when they hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a wild pitch scored Barber and moved Moran over to second, Matt Juengel singled up the middle to send Moran to third.
Anthony Gomez would then tie the game at three when he singled between first and second to plate Moran. Junegel would score in the next at bat when Terrence Dayleg singled up the middle to give Jupiter a 4-3 lead.
It was Dayleg who gave the Hammerheads their first lead of the night in the second inning when he hit a solo homer off of the foul pole in left field.
After Dayleg gave the Sharks the lead Jupiter would add to it when Noah Perio sliced a ground-rule double down the left field line with the bases loaded to make it 6-3.
Colin Moran would later drive in a pair when he doubled with the bases loaded. The hit would end up being the difference in the game.
Moran would finish the evening 3-for-5.
In the ninth the Miracle would end up loading the bases on Colby Suggs before Tyler Grimes singled to make it a four run game.
Blake Logan would come into the game and he allowed RBI singles to Jorge Polanco and Mejia and a sac fly off the bat of Wickens to make it a one-run game.
That would bring up Adam Brett Walker, who leads the league in homers and is second in RBI, with the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first. But disaster was avoided as Logan got Walker to fly out to right to end the game.
Jupiter will begin a three-game series with the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday, the final series before the Florida State League All-Star break.
NOTES: Brad Hand made his second rehab start with the Hammerheads on Monday. He allowed one run on three hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked two.
WP: Casey McCarthy (2-2)
LP: Brian Gilbert (0-2)
S: Blake Logan (1)
