
Blue Crabs Salvage Series with 5-3 Victory over Patriots

Waldorf, MD - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (26-27) salvaged the final game of this three game midweek series as they defeated the Somerset Patriots (26-27) 5-3 from Regency Furniture Stadium Thursday evening in front of 4,981 fans in hot and humid conditions.
In the top of the first inning left fielder Aaron Mathews stroked a RBI single up the middle to put the Patriots on the board first as they led 1-0.
In the bottom of the third inning the Blue Crabs tied the game as shortstop Paco Figueroa collected an RBI on an infield single to make the score 1-1.
In the top of the fifth frame Patriots second baseman Freddie Bynum extended his hitting streak to nine games with an RBI single to give the Patriots a lead at 2-1.
The Blue Crabs responded in the ensuing half inning as Figueroa drove in two runs as he blooped a single to right field as the Blue Crabs took their first lead at 3-2
In the top of the sixth inning designated hitter Johnny Drennen blasted an opposite field solo home run (4) to tie the contest at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning the Blue Crabs scratched across two runs to take a 5-3 lead. Right fielder Mike Daniel had a RBI groundout and designated hitter Chin-Lung Hu softly hit a RBI infield single.
Mike MacDonald suffered his third loss of the season. Chris Mobley earned his first victory of the year while Jim Ed Warden notched his fifth save of the 2012 campaign.
The 2012 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Monday, June 25th when the Patriots return home to take on the Long Island Ducks at TD Bank Ballpark at 7:05 pm.
