Lancaster Sweeps Bridgeport

(Lancaster, PA - June 21, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (22-31) were swept by the Lancaster Barnstormers (33-20) and have lost four in a row as the road team was defeated by a score of 3-2 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Thursday. The Bluefish remain three wins shy of 1,000 in franchise history and are 2-8 against the Barnstormers this season.

Prentice Redman had not homered since June 3 when he sent a two-run shot to rightcenter in the second inning. The homer was his sixth of the year giving the Bluefish a 2-1 lead at the time. That was the only hit by the outfielder on the night as he reached base twice. Brock Peterson scored on the shot by Redman after he reached on a double. The first baseman picked up one hit in four at-bats on Thursday. Elliott Ayala and James Simmons picked up the only other hits for the road team.

Kody Kirkland smacked a homer to right to the game in the second for the Barnstormers and Ryan Harvey gave Lancaster the lead in the fourth with a solo drive to rightcenter. Terry Tiffee drove in the only other run on the night as he served an RBI single to left in the first.

Bridgeport starter, Gilbert De La Vara (3-4), suffered the loss as the southpaw completed six innings and allowed three runs on six hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. Joe Bateman followed the starter by recording two outs from the bullpen Rommie Lewis recorded the final out in the seventh and Jorge Julio recorded a scoreless eighth for Bridgeport after giving up a hit and a walk.

Alan Johnson (4-4) won the game for the Barnstormers as the starter worked five frames and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while fanning six. Horacio Ramirez, Les Walrond, Jason Urquidez, and Tim Hamulack combined for the final four frames. The tandem allowed no runs on one hit and a walk while striking out two; Hamulack notched his thirteenth save of 2012.

The Bluefish return to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, July 22 starting a three game weekend set against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. The Bluefish will send lefthanded starter Dan Serafini (1-0, 1.29 ERA) to the hill against fellow southpaw Roy Merritt (4-1, 3.49 ERA). Friday is Batman Night presented by Alternative Universe.
