Blue Crabs Lose a Slugfest 16-14

(Central Islip, NY September 6th 2015) ---A lead for the Blue Crabs quickly diminished in what rapidly turned into a slugfest as the Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs by the final of 16-14.

Southern Maryland cracked the scoreboard first in the top of the second. With one out Craig Maddox singled followed by a Casey Frawley single two batters later to put two runners on base. The next hitter Keith Castillo roped a double to right center field to score Maddox, and Frawley to make it 2-0. In the following inning, Antone DeJesus got the rally started with an infield single. Fred Lewis then reached base on an error, followed by a Casey Stevenson single scoring both runners to make it 4-0 Southern Maryland.

Long Island put a run up on the board in the bottom of the third on an Anthony Vega solo homerun. The Blue Crabs came right back with the scoring though in the top of the fourth bringing two runs across the plate on a Keith Castillo double to left field to score Jamar Walton, and Casey Frawley to make it 6-1.

The Ducks exploded offensively in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead in the game. Randy Ruiz, and Sean Burroughs both reached base on a single and double to put runners at second and third. The next hitter Nelfi Zapata ripped a homerun over the wall in left to cut the Blue Crabs lead in half to 6-4. Trey Barham was called out of the bullpen, and allowed two runs right off the bat to score to tie the game at 6-6. With runners at second and third, Dan Lyons roped a single to center to score Fehlandt Lentini, and Delta Cleary Jr. to make it 8-6. The next hitter Dan Lyons lifted a two run homerun over the wall in left field to make it 10-6 to round out a nine run innings, having sent 12 batters to the plate.

With the script flipped, Southern Maryland put up a four spot in the top of the fifth highlighted by Jamar Walton's grand slam over the wall in right field to make tie the game at 10-10. In the bottom of the frame, Long Island also scored four runs. With the bases loaded, Fehlandt Lentini drew a walk to score Cody Puckett. Delta Cleary Jr. lashed a single to left to score Reyes and Vega. A couple of batters later, Randy Ruiz drove a single to center to score Lentini to make it 14-10 Long Island.

In the top of the sixth, Antone DeJesus would score on a Bryant Nelson double. The next hitter Jovan Rosa ripped a single to left to score Nelson to make it 14-12. Southern Maryland would mirror the top of the seventh. With runners at second and third, Keith Castillo scored on a wild pitch, followed by Antone DeJesus scoring on a Casey Stevenson single to tie the game at 14-14.

Long Island recaptured the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a Fehlandt Lentini solo homerun. In the bottom of the eighth, Cody Puckett lined a double into left center that allowed Sean Burroughs to score to bring the score to its' final of 16-14. LHP Trey Barham really struggled out of the bullpen, going 0.2 innings, allowing seven runs, on six hits. Long Island banged out 19 hits, led by Delta Cleary Jr. Randy Ruiz, and Nelfi Zapata driving in three runs apiece.

The finale of the series takes place tomorrow afternoon. The first pitch is set for 1:35 P.M. It will be the final matchup between the two clubs in the regular season.
