Blue Comes up Short in South Texas

HIDALGO, Texas, Feb. 4, 2015 - The Oklahoma City Blue fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 130-113, in Hidalgo, Texas on Wednesday. Mitch McGary, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, went 8-of-10 from the field to score 18 points with six rebounds and five steals in 20 minutes.

Marquis Teague notched a career-high 29 points alongside six rebounds and a pair of steals while fellow guard Semaj Christon produced 21 points, three rebounds and three assists. Josh Huestis scored 11 points to go with five boards and Xavier Alexander posted 10 points and four rebounds. Talib Zanna led the Blue's efforts on the glass with eight points and eight rebounds.

Oklahoma City held the Vipers to 1-for-10 three-point shooting in the opening quarter to take a 32-17 lead behind 12 points from Christon. The Blue led by 17 with three minutes remaining in the first half but the Vipers went on a 15-5 run to pull within seven going into halftime.

Rio Grande Valley shot 66.7 percent in the third quarter to outscore the Blue 43-23 in the frame and take a 96-83 lead into the fourth. McGary shot 4-for-4 from the field for eight fourth-quarter points, but the Blue was only able to get within 13 points of the Vipers in the final period.

The Blue (17-13) totaled 13 steals and shot 48.9 percent on the night.

Rio Grande Valley (15-14) was led by Jaron Johnson with 35 points on 11-of-17 shooting.

Wednesday's game marked the first of three road games in three cities over a four-day stretch. Oklahoma City faces the Bakersfield Jam on Friday before taking on the Reno Bighorns on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 9 p.m. tipoffs. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
