Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell short to the Rochester Honkers in the second game of a four-game home stand Saturday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a final score of 8-9. The Anchors are now 5-20.
The Anchors fell behind early after a sac-fly from Alex Schultz and a solo home run by Jeff Campbell, however, Jordan Lee matched Campbell's solo shot in the bottom of the first so the Anchors only trailed by 1 after the first.
The second inning contained more scoring on a Connor Shaefbauer RBI (ROC) and then a 2 run double from Alexandria's Shortstop, Craig Nennig, in the bottom of the second.
In the third, Alexandria was able to force Anthony Sequeira into a double play, that said, Jeff Campbell came around to score on the play so Rochester took a 4-3 lead entering the fourth inning. In that fourth, Rochester added two more runs on RBI hits from Schultz and Campbell.
The Anchors then had an exciting 5th inning thanks to back to back homers from Lee and Goodman. However, Rochester took their lead back in the sixth and then some with an RBI from Campbell and two RBIs from Sequeira.
Alexandria refused to quit though, after surrendering three in the top of the sixth, The Anchors added two more for their cause on a Ben Allen RBI single, Ben later came around to score on a past ball to make the score 9-7.
A Ricky Sanchez home run would be the last run of the game, as it would then turn into a pitching duel with Aaron Rozek throwing for the the Anchors, and a combo of Brandon Stennis and Nick Highberger, who received a save for Rochester.
Alexandria did strand runners on 1st and 3rd, trailing just one run in the bottom of the ninth, and would fall just short to Rochester in what might have been the most exciting home game thus far at Knute Nelson Memorial park.
Notes: The Blue Anchors next game is Sunday afternoon at 1 P.M. vs the Madison Mallards and can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/NorthwoodsLeague.com.
