Madison Mallards News Release
Alexandria, MN - June 22, 2014. The Madison Mallards (14-9) resume play today after not playing the past two days due to record rainfall in Willmar, Minnesota. The team travels to face the Alexandria Blue Anchors (5-20) this afternoon at Knute Nelson Memorial Park in Alexandria, Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.
The Mallards scheduled doubleheader yesterday against the Willmar Stingers (16-5) was postponed due to unplayable field conditions after rainfall in Willmar made the playing surface at Bill Taunton Stadium unplayable. The rescheduled date for the doubleheader is to be determined.
On the mound today against the Blue Anchors is righty Christian Taugner (Brown). Taugner has appeared in 20.2 innings for the Mallards this year, carrying a 3.91 ERA in four starts. He gave up two runs on five hits while striking out three, pitching 6.1 innings in his last start against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on June 15th.
Slated to start for the Blue Anchors is 6'5", 185-pound righty Jason Zgardowski (Angelo State University). Zgardowski has started five games for the club and holds a 4.36 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched. His last game against the St. Cloud Rox, he went six full innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits while striking out two.
The Mallards finish their two game series against the Blue Anchors tomorrow in Alexandria at 6:35 pm before returning to the "Duck Pond" on Tuesday, June 24th to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks (16-8).
Tuesday night is Boy Scout Night and will feature a Zimbrick Honda LEGO Giveaway. There will also be a UW Health Sports Medicine Developing Healthy Off-Speed Pitching Mechanics Clinic from 9 am - 12 pm.
