Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors won in exciting fashion on a walk off fielder's choice from Roman Collins by a final score of 6-5
The Anchors surrendered 5 runs in the top of the second inning due to fielding errors by Kris Goodman, Jordan Lee, and Ryan Busch. Only one of these five runs was charged to the pitcher, Jason Zgardowski, as Will Krug drove in Madison's second baseman, Robbie Tenerowicz.
The game then turned into a pitching duel as In the third, Christian Taugner went 6 complete shutout innings, and Alexandria's Rob Mouton had two solid relief innings.
Enter the 8th inning when the runs started coming. A two run slam from Kris Goodman tightened the lead as the Anchors would trail by just 3 entering the ninth inning.
With Sean Terres completing his 3rd scoreless inning of relief in the top of the 9th, the Anchors were down to their last three outs to make something happen.
Make something happen is exactly what they would accomplish with the first three runners reaching, including a birthday present for Brody Miller from Madison Shortstop Adam Walton, as he failed to field a routine ground ball that should have been a double play. Craig Nennig would then walk after Ryan Busch scored on that error from Walton. This set up Jordan Lee, who homered twice on Saturday night against Rochester, and Lee delivered on a game tying, two RBI double. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Madison then elected to intentionally walk Goodman and set up the double play ball with the 0-4 Roman Collins on deck. Collins did not get a hit with his opportunity, however, he did end up with an exciting RBI fielders choice on a rocket hit at first baseman Joe Dudeck. The fans roared as the Anchors picked up just their 3rd home win of the season over the now 14-10 Mallards.
Notes: The Blue Anchors next game will be Monday night at 6:35PM vs the Madison Mallards and can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/North woodsLeague.com.
