
Blowfish Top HiToms Again

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Thomasvile HiToms 4-3 Wednesday night. The win is the fourth this season for the Blowfish against the HiToms. The win keeps the Blowfish in the hunt for second place in the first half West Division race.
The Blowfish got on the board first in the second inning when Jarrod Reed hit a solo homerun to right centerfield. The Blowfish struck for three more runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Luke Dunlap scored on a Gabe Loweree single, Joshua Miller also scored on the play. Graham Saiko scored the final Blowfish run on a wild pitch.
The HiToms scored a run in the fifth and added two more in the eighth. In the ninth the HiToms were able to get the tying run to third but were unable to score him.
Zack Russell-Myers started on the mound for the Blowfish going seven innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out four. Adam Albers pitched an inning of relief giving up two runs on three hits. Joshua Knab got the save for the Blowfish pitching the ninth and tallying one strikeout.
The Blowfish end their four game road trip Thursday in Forest City. First pitch is set for 7:30. The Blowfish will then return home Friday night against the Florence RedWolves. First pitch for that game is set for 7:05 and tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
