Forest City Routs Gastonia 15-4

Forest City Owls News Release


Gastonia, NC- Justin Bryan and T.J. Sutton combined for seven runs batted in as the Owls blew out the Gastonia Grizzlies 15-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Forest City batted around the order twice in the game, racking up 12 of their 15 runs in the 5th and 6th innings. The Owls offense set new season highs with 15 runs on 20 hits. With the victory, the Owls clinch the first half Western Division Championship and a spot in the Pettit Cup Playoffs at the end of the season.

Stephen Tarkenton started the day with four hits in his first four at-bats, with three singles and a double. Bryan and Sutton recorded the two big hits that blew open the game, both in the 5th inning. Sutton lined a two-run hit down the right field line, but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. After two walks, a double and a single, Bryan launched his first home run of the year, a three-run shot, over the wall in left field to make it 8-1 Owls.

Forest City came right back in the 6th inning and scored five more runs, two of them unearned after an error in right field, that led to a run scoring and prolonged the inning. The Owls ended up sending 11 men to the plate in the 6th after ten batted in the 5th inning. Five different Owls picked up a multi-hit game with every single starter grabbing a hit.

Ryan Tezak went five innings and allowed the only Gastonia run, earning his third win of the season. The offensive explosion was all the more impressive considering Forest City's tough travel schedule during the three-game road trip. The Owls were forced to travel after last night's game in Edenton, and did not arrive at the hotel until 1:00 AM. The team that woke up early for a 7:45 AM leave time, arriving for today's game just a little more than an hour before the 12:10 PM start.

Forest City returns home tomorrow for a 7:30 PM game against the Columbia Blowfish. It will be Thirsty Thursday game at McNair Field with discounted beverages available all night.
