Forest City, NC- With Wednesday's 15-4 win against the Gastonia Grizzlies, the Forest City Owls locked up the First Half Championship for the Coastal Plain League's Western Division. The Owls have now earned a spot in the Petitt Cup Playoffs at the end of the season and are the first team in the CPL to have achieved that goal. In only its 5th year, the Forest City franchise has reached the playoffs in every single season.

The Owls success this season has been due to its terrific blend of both pitching and hitting. Forest City owns the league's best offense with a .288 team average and a .386 on-base percentage. Six different players are batting over .300, led by Alex Close (.386 in 11 games) and Stephen Tarkenton (.375 in 22 games). On the mound, the Owls have a combined team ERA of just 2.97. Forest City's opponents are hitting just .228 on the year. The Owls had their season-high eight game win streak snapped on Tuesday night in Edenton, but rebounded with a season-high 15 runs and 21 hits against the Grizzlies.

Forest City returns home tomorrow for a 7:30 PM game against the Columbia Blowfish. It will be Thirsty Thursday game at McNair Field with discounted beverages available all night. The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
