MOREHEAD CITY, N.C.- The Morehead City Marlins managed just three hits as they fell to the 2012 USA Collegiate National Team 6-1 on a picturesque Wednesday evening at Big Rock Stadium.

The combination of Carlos Rodon, Zack Godley, Marco Gonzales, Tommy Thorpe and David Berg kept the Marlins off balance for most of the night, allowing just three total hits and no earned runs.

D.J. Peterson provided the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning when he blasted a solo home run to left field to put the Red, White and Blue on top 1-0. Then in the fifth, Team USA tacked on two more runs on two walks, a single and an error to make the score 3-0.

In the seventh inning, Team USA scored their final three runs when Trea Turner scored on an RBI-single by Peterson, Michael Lorenzen scored on a passed ball and Kris Bryant singled home Peterson to open up the score to 6-0.

The Marlins scored their only run of the game in the eighth when Sam Ott walked and later came around to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Robbie Rea. Ott was the only Marlin to notch multiple hits, going 2-for-2 with a double, three walks and a run scored.

Marco Gonzales earned the win, tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out three while Tyler Maxwell suffered the loss, allowing just one run on one hit in four innings of work.

The Marlins are back in action tomorrow night as they host the Martinsville Mustangs. It's Thirsty Thursday presented by Budweiser where beer is just $1 all night long. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. as Matt Sutor has the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.

Notes: Jarrett Higgins had the only other Marlins hit... The Marlins pitching staff allowed just eight hits, the least amount Team USA has notched in three games against CPL completion... Team USA plays one more game against the CPL on July 1 against Forest City.
