Blowfish Take 6-3 Loss to the HiToms

THOMASVILLE, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish went into Finch Field to take on the High Point Thomasville HiToms Wednesday night.

The Blowfish started off the scoring with a solo shot in the top of the second inning from Allen Staton (North Greenville University), his second on the season. Later in the third inning, the Blowfish second baseman Eros Modena (Bethune-Cookman) scored on a delayed steal.

The bottom of the third inning is where the HiToms scored their first runs of the night with an RBI double off the bat of Ryan Cooper (Elon). Later in the bottom of the fourth inning the HiToms broke the game apart after starting the inning with four consecutive singles, scoring another three runs on the Blowfish off an accumulated five hits.

The bats quieted down for both teams through the end of regulation as the High Point Thomasville HiToms went on to defeat the Columbia Blowfish 6-3.

The Starter for the Blowfish Wednesday night, Alex Carrasco (Florida A&M), pitched three and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs off of seven hits and two walks. He picked up his first loss of the season, making him (0-1).

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Thursday night, June 6th, facing the Gastonia Grizzlies with first pitch set for 7:05pm. The Columbia Blowfish are now (4-4) on the season, and will fall out of the first place tie in the Western Standings of the CPL.

Also, don't forget that on Wednesday June 12th, Hank Aaron will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch here at historic Capital City Stadium!

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
