Morehead City Marlins News Release
Florence, S.C. - The Florence RedWolves used a three-run home half of the seventh inning to defeat the Morehead City Marlins 5-3 at Cormell Field at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC. on Wednesdady night.
The Marlins came out of the gate swinging a hot bat when Bo Way led off the game with a line drive triple to the right-centerfield gap. He scored on the next play when Sam Ott hit a slow roller to first and the throw home was not in time as Way slid on the outside corner of the plate to avoid the tag. The Marlins ran into some bad luck when Ryan Cranmer lined out to right field and the RedWolves doubled up Jacob Hoyle at second base for the second out of the inning. Zach Arnold then grounded out to end the inning and keep the score at 1-0 in favor of the Marlins.
The next two Florence runs came on wild pitches to tie the score at 2-2 heading to the seventh inning. The Marlins picked up their second run of the night on an RBI single off the bat of Cranmer. Morehead City then took a 3-2 lead in the top half of the seventh when Chase McDonald broke from third on a passed ball.
However, the RedWolves scored three runs in the home half of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead on back-to-back singles and a fielder's choice. The three-run seventh gave the RedWolves all they would need as they walked away with the victory.
Jonathan Paquet threw four solid innings and struck out nine in his first start of the season for the Marlins. The Marlins travel back to Morehead City on Thursday to face the Fayetteville SwampDogs. First pitch from Big Rock Stadium is scheduled for 7:05.
