Fayetteville, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks came close in a marathon game that lasted 14 innings and almost four hours, where the SwampDogs came out victorious with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 14th inning to win 2-1.
The pitching was great from both squads as 10 different pitchers saw action in the ball game with each team throwing five pitchers. J.W. Gora started for the Sharks throwing four innings surrendering one run on three hits. Noah Smallwood, Nick Green, Coley Thompkins, and Hunter Smith combined for 10 innings pitched, as they gave up only one run on eight hits and struck out eight.
The SwampDogs struck first in the third inning off a sac fly from Jacob Spring to give Fayetteville a 1-0 lead. In the top of the seventh, Zach MacAneney drove in Cam Moye to tie up the game. In the bottom of the 14th a Brian Celsi single into right field won the game for Fayetteville.
The Sharks return home on Thursday night to take on the Florence RedWolves with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
