
Blowfish Sweep Doubleheader with Redwolves

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish swept a doubleheader with the Florence RedWolves winning game one 3-0 and game two 7-3 Thursday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. The two wins extend the Blowfish win streak to six games in Coastal Plain League action.
Zack Russel-Myers got the start in game one of the doubleheader for the Blowfish and he was masterful on the mound, going six innings giving up no runs on one hit while striking out four. Jeff Kinley made his first appearance for the Blowfish this season and picked up the save in his one inning of work.
The Blowfish struck in the second inning after Graham Saiko doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI single from Todd Joyner. The Blowfish then struck again in the third inning after Ryan Gebhardt doubled to lead off the inning, was sacrificed to third by Michael Wilson and scored on a suicide squeeze play with two outs by Joshua Miller. The Blowfish scored their final run in the fifth; Federico Castagnini singled with one out and scored on a Joshua Miller RBI single.
Travis Felax started on the mound for the RedWolves going five innings giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out two.
In game two the Blowfish used their bats to secure their sixth straight victory. The Blowfish put up seven runs in the seven-inning contest to win 7-3.
The RedWolves put the Blowfish behind early scoring two runs in the top of the first after back-to-back triples from Matt Helms and Joel Fisher and an RBI groundout Daren Oliver. The RedWolves would add their third in the third off of a sacrifice fly.
The Blowfish got on the board in the third inning scoring four runs. Jarrod Reed led of the fourth by getting hit by a pitch and later scored on a fly ball hit by Michael Wilson that was dropped by the center fielder. That error opened the floodgates for the Blowfish. Wilson and Carson Goldsmith later scored on a Todd Joyner two RBI single. Joyner scored on a Tre-Von Johnson walk to end the scoring in the fourth for the Blowfish.
The Blowfish added a fifth run in the fourth after Federico Castagnini singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a error by the third baseman. The Blowfish scored their final two runs in the sixth on a Carson Goldsmith two RBI double.
Chase Rihtarchik started on the mound for the Blowfish and got the win going three innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out two. Tucker Ward came on in relief of Rihtarchik going three innings giving up one run on one hit while striking out two as well. J.D. Osborne pitched the final ining for the Blowfish striking out the side to end the game.
Robert Lawhon started on the mound for the RedWolves going two and two third innings giving up four runs on three hits and striking out two. Lawhon took the loss for the RedWolves.
The Blowfish will be back home on Saturday as they face the Asheboro Copperheads; first pitch is set for 7:05 and tickets are still available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
