Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Ryan Tezak took a no-hitter into the 5th inning and ended up with seven shutout innings as the Owls blanked the Thomasville Hi-Toms 9-2 on Thursday night. The West Virginia product struck out a season-high seven batters, while holding the Hi-Toms to just five baserunners over the course of his outing. For the second straight night, the Forest City pitching held strong, while the offense caught up late in the game.

After putting together a big 8th inning last night, it was the 7th inning that was the Hi-Toms undoing on Thursday. The Owls offense rallied for five runs on just two hits, four walks and two errors. The big inning turned a 3-0 lead to an 8-0 margin. Four of the five runs scored in the inning were unearned as Nate Chong and Ryan Welke both reached on errors to prolong the frame. Bryan Aanderud drove in two runs on a bases loaded single up the middle for the big hit in the inning.

Aanderud and Gunnar Heidt keyed the Owls offensive attack as a whole. Aanderud finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. He was also hit by a pitch. Heidt had his best game in a Forest City uniform, going 4-for-4 with four singles and two runs scored. Chong extended his hit streak to a team-high eight games with a base hit to lead off the 8th inning.

Thomasville's only runs came in the top of the 8th inning against Drew Reynolds. The sidearm pitcher had one batter reach on an error and walked three others. Both runs scored against Reynolds were unearned. The Owls added another run in the bottom of the 8th. Bryce Danielson pitched a perfect 9th inning to close the game. Tezak picked up his first win in three starts this year. Josh Laxer took the loss in his first outing of the season for the Hi-Toms.
