The Fayetteville SwampDogs improved to 9-6 on the year with an impressive 8-to-5 win over the Petersburg Generals on Thursday night.Max McDonald (St. Edwards) picked up his first win of the season after working through six solid innings, recording five strikeouts. A.J. Gaura (Austin Peay) picked up the save in his SwampDogs' debut while working three innings of relief.The Dogs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on a two-run triple by Sal Giardina (Lynn), who scored on a Reed Harper (Austin Peay) groundout in the frame. Four more SwampDogs came across to score in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Giardina. Connor Obrochta (Tampa) recorded his team-leading fourth double of the season, while Joe Ciamocco (Ohio State) and John Howell (Binghamton) also picked up hits in the inning.Petersburg picked up a run in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the seventh to get within two runs of the Dogs who took a 7-5 lead into the eighth inning of play.Fayetteville added an insurance run in the eighth when Ciamacco was walked with the bases loaded, and Gaura picked up the save to seal the 8-to-5 victory.The All American Weekend of Fun continues on Friday, June 15th, where it's Military Appreciation Night. The Dogs appreciate the military every day but this night will be extra special. The first 500 fans will also recieve a drawstring bag courtesy of Rick Hendrick Toyota.The Fayetteville SwampDogs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
